Kako je moguće baviti se Platonom danas, ukoliko je filozofija „svoje vreme obuhvaćeno mislima“? Autor Platonovom delu ne pristupa kao dogmatskom štivu, već kao tekstu prožetom paradoksima, koje izmiče svakom unapred pripremljenom, šematizovanom modelu čitanja. Obratiti se Platonu kao filozofskoj paradigmi isplativo je ukoliko filozofi koji progovaraju iz dubine vremena mogu nešto važno da nam saopšte i ukoliko smo kadri da im postavimo autentično pitanje. Zato filozofi moraju imati dah delfskog ronioca, jer biser se ne nalazi u svakoj školjci. Knjiga (...) Iz Platonove filozofije ulazi u red značajnih knjiga posvećenih Platonovoj filozofiji. Veći deo knjige je objavljen u časopisima od svetskog ugleda (na nemačkom i engleskom jeziku). Time je njen kvalitet potvrđen recenzijama koje su nastale van domaćih koterija, a delo se samerilo sa aktuelnim pristupima Platonu. Knjiga se bavi problemima koji su formulisani u drugoj polovini prošlog veka (napisano i nenapisano učenje), preko naizgled klasičnih tema (dvostruki paradoks, utemeljenje istorijskog i političkog, eros), do tekstova koji pogađaju fenomen aktuelnosti Platonove teorije i prakse (problemi kongitivne dispozicije i bioetike u Platonovoj filozofiji). Ispred nas je Platon u dijalogu sa filozofskim strujanjima s kraja dvadesetog i početkom ovog veka. Za Irinu Deretić smisao filozofskog dijaloga leži u procenjivanju i odmeravanju stanovišta u raspravi, kako bi se vlastito stanovište preciznije artikulisalo. Ne radi se o utopijskoj komunikativnoj zajednici - već o karakteru filozofskog dijaloga, koji je upućen na unutrašnji, a ne na spoljašnji agon. Platon iz sasvim nesofističkih razloga preuzima metodu sofista kada „slabiju stvar čini jačom“. Tome je suprotna eristička (ne)kultura, u kojoj strasti imaju prevagu na davanjem bilo kakvih, „a kamoli valjanih razloga“, piše Irina Deretić. Iz problematičnosti jezika i sučeljavanja sa bliskim granicama pojmljivosti, ne mora da proizađe i slabost logosa. Naprotiv, snaga logosa je obrnuto proporcionalna sposobnošću da se odredi njegova nemoć. Granicu Platonove misli Irina Deretić jezgrovito formuliše: „Platonov jezik je sav okrenut biću, i usmeren je na saznajno ovladavanje njime. Snaga argumenta učesnika u Platonovim razgovorima upravo se sastoji u njihovoj sposobnosti da tačno pogode stvarnost na koju se odnose i koju nastoje da izraze“. Ali to vodi oblikovanju samog karaktera dijaloga: sagovornici se podređuju vođstvu „same stvari“ mišljenja. Međutim, logos nije svemoćan, i inače, a pogotovo ne za Platona. Irina Deretić insistira na autentičnom smislu nemoći logosa kao racionalnog diskursa, koji se pokazuje na odlučujućim mestima, tamo gde njegove refleksije o idejama, posebno o Ideji Dobra bivaju suočene sa granicama njihove saznatljivosti i saopštivosti. Napokon, Platonova okrenutost biću nije dovela do teorije adekvatnosti između bića i jezika, nego do isticanja paradoksa i metafore. A šta je iza njihovog vela - ništa, ili su oni, naprotiv, konstitutivni za biće, da li uopšte može biti odlučeno? U skladu sa filozofskim vjeruju Nikolaja Berđajeva, može se formulisati karakteristika ove važne i lepe knjige: Iz dubine vremena izvire sposobnost da se filozofski misli, a to onda nije u koliziji sa aktuelnim „primenama“ filozofske refleksije. Nemali broj interpretatora Platonove Države smatra kako Sokratova argumentacija protiv Trasimaha u prvoj knjizi Države nije zadovoljavajuća, valjana i uverljiva. U ovom radu autorka nastoji da pokaže u čemu leže smisao, snaga i validnost Sokratovih argumenata protiv imoralističkog stanovišta o prirodi pravednosti. Njegovi argumenti nemaju samo elenktičku, pobijajuću vrednost, nego nam daju i uvid u neka načelna pitanja, poput prirode umeća, pleoneksije, funkcije, vrline, eudajmonije, te pružaju putokaz u kojem pravcu će se kretati dalja rasprava u Državi.

Зборници Историја српске филозофије. Прилози истраживању представљају главни резултат рада на пројекту „Историја српске филозофије“ (евиденциони број 179064) који од 2011. године подржава Министарство просвете, науке и технолошког развоја Републике Србије. Пројекат, чији је носилац Филозофски факултет Универзитета у Београду, успешно се реализује у сарадњи са готово десет научно-истраживачких институција широм земље, укључујући и Аутономну Покрајину Косово и Метохија. Иако је првобитно планирано да пројекат траје само четири године, он се тренутно налази у десетој години постојања, а уз то је (...) и проширен већим бројем млађих колега доктораната. Од нарочитог значаја јесте то што радове за Историју српске филозофије. Прилози истраживању не достављају само чланови пројекта, већ и други професори, сарадници, истраживачи, како из Србије, тако и из других земаља: Русије, Хрватске, Босне и Херцеговине, Црне Горе. На тај начин, пројекат полако, али сигурно, задобија међународни значај. Аутори радова у зборницима Историја српске филозофије. Прилози истраживању бирали су теме у складу са властитим интересовањима, као и у договору са руководиоцем и осталим сарадницима пројекта. Премда је рад на истраживању српске филозофије још увек пионирског карактера, сарадници пројекта су дошли до сасвим нових открића, попут средњевековних, српских преписа старословенске прераде расправе Теодора Раитуског. Ваља напоменути да су сарадници пројекта „Историја српске филозофије“ објавили и већи број чланака у истакнутим националним и међународним часописима, поглавља у монографијама, низ монографских научних студија, те остварили учешћа на више значајних међународних и националних научних скупова. Будући да су аутори ових публикација истакнути професори, универзитетски радници и интелектуалци запослени у научним институцијама широм земље (Београд, Косовска Митровица, Нови Сад, итд), омогућена је садржинска разноврсност публикованих текстова у којима се разматрају дела српских мислилаца из најразличитијих позиција и перспектива. За известан број радова у зборнику може се рећи да су интердисциплинарног карактера. Предмет истраживања пројекта јесте историја српске филозофије, односно критичко и теоријско разматрање развоја филозофских идеја, институција, рукописа и часописа у српској култури, почевши од средњег века па до данас. Нит водиља у истраживању српске филозофске баштине јесте уверење да постоји континуитет и идентитет српске филозофије, који се формирао у плодном дијалогу са страним, углавном европским узорима, идејама и мислиоцима. Истражујући однос између српске и других филозофија настојимо да расветлимо у којој мери и на који начин су страни филозофски писци утицали на радове домаћих аутора у оном историјском периоду у којем су настајали. Тако ће се утврдити у којој мери су њихова дела само рецептивног карактера, а у којој имају и оригиналан печат. Српска филозофија се од почетка развијала под страним утицајима, прво византијске филозофије, а потом у модерно и савремено доба под утицајем западноевропских и руских водећих праваца у филозофији. О овим сложеним односима критички и систематски се расправљало у већем броју студија у сва четири тома зборника посвећених српској филозофији и њеној историји. Српски филозофски писци не могу се издвојено посматрати од својих чланака, књига или превода. Исто тако је њихов рад неодвојив од њихове педагошке и политичке активности. Истраживање сарадника на пројекту стога је усмерено на критичко преиспитивање целине рада српских филозофа, где се у средишту налазе њихови филозофски текстови. Српска филозофија је интегрални део српске културе, те је нераскидиво повезана како са природним наукама, тако и са другим областима духовног стваралаштва као што су књижевност, теологија и уметности. Стога је значајно проучавање односа филозофије и других дисциплина, уочавањем њихових сличности и разлика, као и указивањем на то шта је у одређеним творевинама људског духа специфично филозофског карактера. За српску филозофску мисао карактеристично је и то што она често, нарочито у прошлости, није излагана у облику филозофских студија и расправа, већ је артикулисана у другим, књижевним жанровима, као што су средњовековна житија светаца или у модерно доба писма, дијалози или шире схваћени есеји. Исто тако потребно је показати како су у српској академској заједници неговане основне филозофске дисциплине (метафизика, онтологија, логика, епистемологија, филозофија језика, филозофија природе, етика, естетика, филозофија психологије, политичка филозофија, филозофија права и друге). При томе je један од задатака био да се процени колики је допринос наших филозофа поменутим дисциплинама. У периоду 2011–2019. сарадници пројекта ,,Историја српске филозофије’’ спровели су истраживања која нам пружају знатно дубљи, прегледнији увид у српску филозофију, најзначајније периоде у њеном развоју, писце и њихова дела, формирање и развој одређених филозофских дисциплина, као и њихов однос према наукама и другим областима стваралаштва. Показано је на који начин се артикулише однос српске филозофије према другим европским филозофијама, и то, како у погледу рецепције, тако и у погледу узајамних утицаја и сучељавања. Пошто је израда библиографија услов без ког озбиљно истраживање у хуманистичким наукама не може ни започети, неки од резултата овог пројекта јесу библиографије о српским филозофима и њиховим делима, о српској филозофској периодици, као и настави филозофије у југословенским земљама. Филозофија је камен-темељац природних и хуманистичких наука, те стваралаштва уопште. Она спада у суштински моменат опште образованости, како светске, тако и националне културе. Ниједна национална култура не може се целовито и темељно изучити уколико се из тог истраживања изостави њена филозофска традиција. У том смислу је потреба за изучавањем српске филозофске баштине од изузетног значаја за наше саморазумевање. Постоји читав низ делимично или потпуно неистражених тема и области, неутврђених чињеница, полусачуваних или готово нечитких рукописа које тек треба истражити, критички размотрити и систематизовати. Најцеловитију студију под називом Развитак филозофије у Срба (1804–1944) објавио је Андрија Стојковић 1972. године. Ово значајно дело је, међутим, не посматра српску филозофију у целини од њених средњовековних почетака. Године 1978. Бранко Павловић је покренуо први пројекат о српској филозофији на Институту за филозофију Филозофског факултета у Београду, који, на жалост, није заживео. Почетак српске филозофије везује се за преводе, коментаре и рецепцију византијске филозофије. У сва четири тома зборника налазе се текстови посвећени управо овим темама, а то су: формирање српске филозофске терминологије, рецепција старогрчке и модерне европске филозофије код српских писаца, однос филозофије и књижевности, као и однос филозофије и теолошке мисли у делима српских аутора. После губитка независне државе, српска филозофија се развијала под руским и немачким утицајима. Најзначајнији српски мислиоци XVIII века су Руђер Бошковић (1711–1787), Дубровчанин, српско-италијанског порекла, као и Доситеј Обрадовић (?–1811). Различити аспекти њихових дела били су предмет критичког разматрања у огледима публикованим у сва четири тома зборника. Српској филозофији XIX и XX века био је посвећен највећи број радова сарадника на пројекту. Које су то филозофске идеје у књижевном тексту, како се у њему манифестују, те може ли се реконструисати филозофско становиште једног књижевника јесу питања којима су се бавили радови објављени у свим до сада публикованим томовима зборника. Предмет њиховог преиспитивања биле су, између осталог, филозофске идеје и рефлексије у књижевним делима Петра II Петровића Његоша (1813–1851), Лазе Костића (1841–1910) или Станислава Винавера (1891–1955), итд. Сарадници пројекта бавили су се и српском, академском филозофијом у XIX и XX веку: хегелијанцем Димитријем Матићем (1821–1884), оригиналном концепцијом еволуције Божидара Кнежевића (1862–1905), а затим и једним од најзначајнијих српских филозофа Браниславом Петронијевићем (1875–1954). Када је реч о првој половини XX века, нарочита пажња посвећена је феноменолошком покрету у Србији: часопису Philosophia и рефлексијама Загорке Мићић (1903–1982). Такође, водеће идеје српске политичке филозофије, идеолошки сукоби на линији левица-десница биле су истражене. Делом једног од најутицајнијих српских филозофа, академика Михаила Марковића (1923–2010), бавило се више сарадника овог пројекта. Такође, истраживана су дела Ксеније Атанасијевић (1894–1981), Бранка Павловића (1934–1985), те рецепција античке филозофије у делима Анице Савић-Ребац (1892–1953). Спроведена истраживања показала су, између осталог, на који начин је српска филозофија интегрисана у европску и светску историју филозофије. Рад на истраживању наше филозофске прошлости и критичком оцењивању садашњости није само од историјског значаја. Наши средњовековни писци су активно учествовали у конституисању византијске образовне парадигме. Српски научник и филозоф светског гласа, српско-италијанског порекла, Дубровчанин, Руђер Бошковић (1711–1787) снажно је утицао на развој западноевропске науке. Да је наша савремена филозофија такође постигла завидне резултате, чији значај превазилази националне оквире, понајбоље сведоче појаве изабраних дела наших најистакнутијих мислилаца, почевши од Бранислава Петронијевића (1875–1954), преко Михаила Марковића (1923–2010), Љубомира Тадића (1925–2013), Михаила Ђурића (1925–2011), Светозара Стојановића (1931–2010), Александра Крона (1937–2000). Неопходно је да се укратко осврнемо и на садржину претходна три објављена тома Историје српске филозофије. Прилози истраживању, како би се стекао увид у то које су посебне теме, филозофи и њихова дела били предмет критичког преиспитивања наших аутора. У публикованим зборниима готово да нема краћих рада, већ у њима доминирају огледи и студије. Студије првог тома проучавају филозофске идеје у широком историјском раздобљу почевши од оснивања српске државе и почетака филозофије код Срба, све до филозофа и мислилаца двадесетог века. У овом тому, аутори су се, између осталог, бавили средњовековном српском логиком, онтолошким основама филозофије природе и савременом рецепцијом методолошких идеја Руђера Бошковића (1711–1787) којем су посвећена два прилога, идејама и правцима просветитељства у делима Доситеја Обрадовића (1744–1811), потом економским идејама идејама Светозара Марковића (1846–1875) које су по први пут на системски начин истраживане, Слободана Јовановића (1869–1958) Владимира Дворниковића (1888–1956), Михаила Марковића (1923–2010). Теме проучавања су били: рано раздобље у филозофији Душана Недељковића (1899–1984) естетичка позиција Милана Ранковића (1932–2012), као и рецепција Спинозиног појма супстанције код Радмиле Шајковић (1924–2016). Две студије посвећене су Јустину Поповићу (1894–1979), од којих се у једној расправљало о односу Јустина Поповића, руских религијских филозофа и Канта. Други том је подељен у следеће тематске целине: Српска филозофија у XVIII, XIX и првој половини XX века, Српска филозофија и филозофска терминологија у словенском контексту, Српска филозофија од друге половине XIX века до данас и Библиографија српске филозофске периодике. У њему је било речи о рецепцији дела Лазе Костића (1841–1910) у српској естетици, о научној метафизици Бранислава Петронијевића (1875–1954), затим о филозофским и књижевним аспектима мистичке еротологије Анице Савић-Ребац (1892–1953), те о доприносу Милоша Н. Ђурића (1892–1967) стварању српске филозофске терминологије. Публиковани су и радови о песнику-филозофу Бранку Миљковићу (1934–1961), естетичару Мирку Зуровцу (1941-) и недавно преминулом филозофу Милету Савићу (1957– 2015). Аутори зборника проучавали су српске мислиоце од осамнаестог века па до данас. Други део књиге посвећен је, између осталог, српској филозофској терминологији у ширем, словенском контексту. Објављени су и прилози о Миливоју Јовановићу (1869–1942), Јустину Поповићу (1894–1979), у којем је по први пут публикована преписка између Григорија Флоровског и Јустина Поповића, о хетеро-онтолошком заснивању естетике Милана Дамњановића (1924–1994), као и о филозофском становишту Радивоја Керовића (1961–). У овом броју уведена је посебна рубрика посвећена библиографијама српске филозофске периодике или пак дела филозофских аутора, чији је аутор Добрило Аранитовић. У другом тому публикована је библиографија часописа: Архив за философију, педагогију и друштвене науке, покренутог 1898. године, а који су уређивали Миливоје Јовановић и Стеван Окановић. Трећи том, подељен у четири тематске целине: О српској филозофији, књижевности и естетици, Српска филозофија од средњег века до XVIII и XIX века, Српска филозофија прве половине XX века до данас и Библиографија српске филозофске периодике, захватио је широко историјско раздобље: студије о преводу збирке дела Дионисија Ареопагите Инока Исаије (XIV век), о Доситејевом (1744–1811) телеолошком доказу постојања Бога, о делу Петра II Петровића Његоша (1813–1851), Божидара Кнежевића (1862–1954), Светомира Ристића (1886–1971), Николе Милошевића (1929–2007), Светозара Стојановића (1931–2010), Јована Аранђеловића (1935-), Николе Грахека (1949–2003). Било је речи и о филозофији природних наука Симе Марковића (1888–1939), као и о заснивању филозофије смисла у делу Богдана Шешића (1909–1999). Теме којима се аутори прилога у претходна три тома баве укључују и улогу Естетичког друштва Србије у развоју естетике у српској филозофији, појам и лик филозофије Срба у Републици Српској, затим потребу утемељења филозофије медија у културном амбијенту Републике Србије, књижевно-историјско заснивање српске националне литературе, естетичку мисао босанскохерцеговачких Срба, као и филозофске аспекте косовског мита и предања. Четврти том Историје српске филозофије. Прилози истраживању такође је подељен у четири тематске целине: Српски мислиоци XIX и XX века, Српска филозофија у националном, европском и медијском контексту, Библиографије српских филозофа и Сећања. И у овом тому прилога за проучавање српске филозофије садржани су тематски врло разнородни текстови почевши од оних који разматрају рефлексије најзначајнијих српских филозофа преко радова што се баве поетском и уопште уметничком артикулацијом филозофских идеја све до текстова који истражују однос филозофије и природно-научних дисциплина. Такође се расправило и о српској, религијској филозофији, о ауторима и темама из српске филозофије историје, политике као и о филозофији медија коју је код нас утемељила Дивна Вуксановић. Немали број радова посвећен је најзначајнијим српским филозофима XIX и XX века. Акрибичан текст о Божидару Кнежевићу, аутора Бориса Милосављевића, представља предложак за неку будућу монографију о најоригиналнијом српском филозофу. Милосављевићев текст спаја Кнежевићев живот, политичка уверења са његовим најзначајнијим делима и њиховом критичком рецепцијом. Рад о Загорки Мицић (1903–1982), хрватског филозофа Жељка Павића, показује да се њен филозофски допринос састоји у наглашавању етичких аспеката Хусерлове феноменологије. Феноменологија је утицала и на српску естетику, те Уна Поповић у системски промишљеном тексту открива разлоге зашто и на које начине је феноменологија утицала на формирање естетичких становишта српских филозофа. Три текстa су посвећена значајним, савременим српским филозофима попут Гаје Петровића (1927–1993), Светозара Стојановића (1931–2010) и Николе Грахека (1949–2003). Критички разматрајући основне ставове Гаје Петровића (1927–1993), Мирко Аћимовић не узима у обзир само Петровићев уџбеник Логике, него и његове постхумне радове који се баве историјом логике. У студији о Светозару Стојановићу (1931–2010) Јовица Тркуља се залаже за критичко преиспитивање Стојановићеве теоријске и политичке еволуције. У тексту о одређењу бола у филозофији бола Николе Грахека (1949–2003), Мирослава Трајковски разликује појмове „болно осећање“ и „болност“, те испитује могућност да се Грахекова теза о болу као паралелном нервном механизму прецизира помоћу феноменолошке анализе свести коју даје Франц Брентано. Илија Марић и Ирина Деретић своје радове посвећују српској рецепцији античке филозофије. Илија Марић проучава Недељковићеву (1899–1984) књигу о Хераклиту објављену 1924. за коју је А. Маркези превела све Ефежанинове аутентичне фрагменте. У рукопису другог издања, које до сада није објављено, Недељковић је унео низ промена и проширења. Поређењем објављене књиге и рукописа Марић открива Недељковићеву филозофску еволуцију од хераклитовца до дијалектичког материјалисте. У раду о Ксенији Атанасијевић (1894–1981), Ирина Деретић проучава њене радове о Епикуру, укључујући и француску књигу L’atomisme d’Épicure [Епикуров атомизам], настојећи да критички преиспита како веродостојност и актуелност интерпретације Епикура Ксеније Атанасијећ, тако и само Епикурово учење о миними и његову теорију о задовољству. С правом полазећи од тога да је потребно “предузети редефинисање просвјетитељски и позитивистички схваћеног „рационалног” знања, наиме треба признати епистемички статус не само исказима науке (тј. научне рационалности) него и изразима религиозног искуства, умјетничког искуства, па дакако и изразима искуства „народног духа” – Богољуб Шијаковић истражује етички смисао српских народних пословица у тексту „Мудрост у контексту: пословице и филозофије“. Исто тако, изрази песничког искуства имају филозофски смисао и значај. У огледу Загонетка и тајна: Лаза Костић и Бранко Миљковић око Хераклитове ватре, Богољуб Шијаковић тражи споне између два велика српска песника Лазе Костића (1841–1910) и Бранка Миљковића (1934–1961), при чему се обојица „окрећу“ Хераклитовој ватри, настојећи да одговоре на питање о томе да ли наука, филозофија, уметност и вера имају неко дубље јединство. Присуством филозофског у поезији бави се и Срђан Дамјановић у раду под називом Филозофски песимизам у поезији Симе Пандуровића (1883–1960), који, полазећи од промишљања Исидоре Секулић (1883–1960), Јована Скерлића (1877–1914) и Ксеније Атанасијевић (1894–1981) о Пандуровићевом поетском песимизму, тематизује разлику у типологији песимизма коју је уочио Јован Деретић (1934–2002). Два текста разматрају светосавље и то из различитих перспектива. Миленко Бодин проучава светосавље као специфично српски духовни образац мишљења у ширем контексту источно-хришћанског наслеђа европског културног миљеа филозофије. Владимир Цветковић преиспитује религијску филозофију Јустина Поповића (1894–1979) и Николаја Велимировића (1883–1956) нарочито у контексту њихове критике европског хуманизма, рационализма и индивидуализма, користећи се идејама руске религијске ренесансе, а пре свих идејама Свечовека, односно Богочовека, целовитог сазнања и саборности. Односом филозофије и природних наука баве се три текста у овом тому зборника. У тексту Математичка феноменологија Михаила Петровића (1868–1943), Горан Рујевић истражује основе разумевања математике у пројекту Петровићеве математичке феноменологије, из којег ће се показати да је веома близак логицизму, али да садржи и специфичне конвенционалистичке елементе. У раду Филозофске идеје Косте Стојановића (1867–1921), Александар Кандић разматра филозофске садржаје у његовим списима и Стојановићеву тезу о јединству наука и научних дисциплина, утемељену на метафизичком ставу о јединству стварности. Милош Миловановић истражује феноменологију Михаила Петровића (1868–1943) и његове спектре. Неки радови зборника посвећени су разматрању односа филозофије историје и политике, као и политичког ангажмана. Јован Аранђеловић, полазећи од хегелијанске разлике између разума и ума, те Хегелове филозофије историје, формира властите погледе о томе како се треба односити према кризном времену у коме живимо. Стојан Шљука показује значај активног ангажмана интелектуалне елите у српским државотворним настојањима. Часлав Копривица проучава оне моменте који заузимају најистакнутије место у делима недавно преминулог српског филозофа Александра Никитовића (1967–2016). Богомир Ђукић истражује филозофију историје савременог српског филозофа Ристе Тубића (1933–2018) у контексту историје српске филозофије. Иако у оваквом свету у ери владавине медијске културе питање слободе (имагинације) делује као пуко техничко-технолошко, Дивна Вуксановић, утемељивачица дисциплине филозофија медија у нашем академском систему, како је и напред наведено, покушала је да одговори на питање ,,да ли је савремена комуникациона технологија у стању да мења светове уметности и (медијске) културе (па тако и саму стварност), и ако јесте – на које то начине чини’’, а Јован Буковала је, настојећи да у нашем истраживачком дискурсу нагласи значај филозофије позоришта, која спаја филозофију и театрологију, преиспитивао улогу филозофије у позоришту анализирајући капитална дела Хане Арент Живот духа и Предавања о Кантовој политичкој филозофији, захваљујући томе што је ауторка ослонац нашла управо у утемељивачима филозофије позоришта – филозофима: Платону, Августину, Гетеу, Хегелу и Ничеу, док се Доброслав Смиљанић, на примеру Коларчеве задужбине, бавио дисолуцијом и етичким императивом јединства људског знања. У трећој целини Бибиографије српских филозофа, наш реномирани библиограф Добрило Аранитовић представио нам је био-библиографију Драгана М. Јеремића (1925–1986), једног од најзначајнијих српских естетичара. Аранитовић је, у свом препознатљивом стилу, дао комплетан преглед целокупне грађе овог покојног редовног професора Филозофског факултета Универзитета у Београду на предметима Еестетика и Социологија уметности, али и истакнутог књижевног критичара. На жалост, у протеклих пар година смо остали без својих највећих филозофа. Стога је четврта целина, под називом Сећања, посвећена управо њима, јер су обележили наше време и српску филозофију уопште. Oдласком професора Филозофског факултета, Универзитета у Београду професорке теорије сазнања Светлане Књазев Адамовић (1931–2016), класичне филолошкиње Љиљане Црепајац (1931–2018), логичара Косте Дошена (1954–2017), социолошкиње и антрополошкиње Загорке Голубовић (1930–2019), естетичара Александра Зистакиса (1961–2019), остао нам је немерљив губитак. Напустили су нас, такође, и професори овог факултеа и универзитета који су свој рад посветили историји филозофије: Симо Елаковић (1940–2016), Слободан Жуњић (1949–2019) и Иван Вуковић (1970–2017). Према томе, имајући у виду основне тематско-проблемске целине, као што су филозофски писци, филозофска дела и часописи писани на српском језику, однос српске и других филозофија, израда библиографија српске филозофске литературе, филозофски рукописи писани у српској варијанти старословенског језика или пак књиге српских филозофа писаних на страним језицима, филозофске дисциплине и њихова повезаност са наукама и другим областима људског стваралаштва, историја институција попут српских универзитета и Српског филозофског друштва, очекује се да ће сарадници пројекта и у наредним годинама наставити да публикују есеје и научне радове у истакнутим националним и међународним часописима, поглавља у монографијама, односно комплетне монографске студије у којима би се на аналитички и интердисциплинаран начин, кад год је то неопходно, бавили поменутим областима српске филозофије. Резултати ових истраживања биће представљени и на релевантним међународним и националним научним скуповима. Главни циљ рада на пројекту и даље је публиковање обимних зборника радова динамиком коју допуштају финансијски услови, чиме би се истраживање српске филозофије институционализовало у трајној форми. Овом приликом веома се захваљујемо Вишњи Кнежевић и Јовану Буковали на великој помоћи око рада на овом зборнику, укључујући архивске податке, али, пре свега, на њиховим саветима и лектури. (shrink)

This is a review of: Николай Онуфриевич Лосский, под редакцией В. П. Филатова, Москва: Росспэн (Серия "Философия России первой половины ХХ века"), 2016. It describes and appraises the content of this collection of nineteen articles on the life and thought of the prominent twentieth century Russian philosopher Nikolai Lossky. The volume, edited by Vladimir Filatov, presents the reader with an analysis of Lossky's philosophical legacy, including such aspects of his thought as his intuitivism, his personalism, his relation to phenomenology, his (...) narrative of the history of Russian philosophy, and so on. Lossky is also compared to other Russian philosophers (Shpet, Frank) and his legacy in other countries (Poland, Slovakia) is examined. Volumul ”Sustenabilitatea educației doctorale în economie și afaceri” valorifică ideile și cercetările doctoranzilor de la Universitatea “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” din Iași, școala doctorală de economie și administrarea afacerilor. Lucrările au fost prezentate, prin postere sau în plen, în conferința finală a proiectului SESYR, finanțat prin programul european Jean Monnet. Structurarea volumului în patru subcapitole generice are ca scop valorificarea domeniilor considerate prin filosofia proiectului:managementul proiectelor, antreprenoriat si angajabilitate pentru tinerii cercetători. O colecție de 24 de articole având 35 de autori, (...) oferă un mediu de dezbatere științifică provocatoare pentru publicul cititor din domeniul economic. Focalizarea subiectelor din articolele prezente pe motivațiile de cercetare ale doctoranzilor și postdoctoranzilor face ca acest volum să reprezinte un debut publicistic pentru unii autori iar pentru alții, o consolidare a vocației. Diseminarea pasiunilor în astfel de contexte consolidează colaborarea și deschiderea spre noi subiecte investigative. Volumul este destinat studenților, cercetătorilor și profesorilor și îl propunem ca reper bibliografic pentru dezvoltarea altor idei de cercetare și inovare în arealul nostru tematic. (shrink)

Mówiąc o historii frazeologii języka niemieckiego, należy wyróżnić dwie zasadnicze fazy. Pierwsza z nich to odległy okres sięgający jeszcze XVII w., kiedy to w centrum zainteresowania badaczy stały paremia. Na tym etapie określanie zainteresowania frazeologizmami terminem dyscyplina byłoby nieco na wyrost. Autorzy tego okresu ograniczali się bowiem do inwentaryzacji funkcjonujących w języku przysłów. W tym miejscu należy wspomnieć takie nazwiska, jak Peters czy Schottel, których prace ze względu na jakość zasługują na szczególne uznanie. Do wieku XIX nie doszło do przełomu (...) w badaniach nad frazeologizmami. Jedynym godnym uwagi jest fakt, że pojawia się termin idiomatyczność, jedna z głównych cech związków frazeologicznych, wprowadzony przez Paula. Zaowocowało to pracami, których autorzy starali się w oparciu o to kryterium dokonywać podziału zespołów wyrazowych Jednak ich zainteresowanie dalekie było jeszcze od szczegółowej analizy, a skupiało się wyłącznie na inwentaryzacji. Dopiero wiek XX za sprawą pracy Traité de stilistique franęaise Bally’ego przyniósł przełom w badaniach frazeologizmów i stworzył fundamenty, na których powstała nowa dziedzina językoznawstwa. Choć początkowo praca nie spotkała się z większym zainteresowaniem, to w latach trzydziestych i czterdziestych minionego wieku znalazła uznanie radzieckich badaczy. To dzięki takim językoznawcom, jak Vinogradov czy Černyševa nastąpił istny renesans badań związków frazeologicznych, który ostatecznie doprowadził tam do wykrystalizowania się w latach czterdziestych XX w. frazeologii jako uznanej dyscypliny językoznawstwa. Osiągnięcia radzieckiej frazeologii przeniosła na grunt niemieckiej lingwistyki Ruth Klappenbach pod koniec lat sześćdziesiątych XX w. W roku 1970 Irina Černyševa opublikowała szczegółową pracę, poświęconą niemieckiej frazeologii. Powstałe później publikacje takich autorów, jak Koller, Pilz, Burger czy Fleischer, stały się żelaznym kanonem frazeologii języka niemieckiego i na stałe ugruntowały pozycję nowej dyscypliny. Kolejne publikacje autorów z całego świata, mające często charakter interdyscyplinarny, ukazują wciąż nowe kierunki badań frazeologizmów. Tym samym stanowią one nieoceniony wkład w dalszy rozwój niemieckiej frazeologii. (shrink)

Rad se bavi temom tiranije u Platonovoj filozofiji koja je neraskidivno vezana za Platonovu kritiku demokratije. Stoga, da bi se uopšte moglo govoriti o njegovoj kritici tiranije, u radu će biti prikazana i sva druga društvena uređenja koja on pominje i čija smjenjivanja bivaju odslikana kroz živopisnu paralelu smjene generacija. Izložiću njegov argument zašto su tiranin i tiranija u potpunom opozitu sa njegovom idealnom državom i kraljem filozofom, ali takođe i postaviti mnogobrojna ključna pitanja koja će u radu biti podijeljena (...) u pet cjelina. U prvoj i drugoj cjelini ću govoriti o onome što dovodi do same promjene društvenih uređenja u Platonovoj „Državi“, stavljajući akcenat na prelaz demokratije u tiraniju. U trećem dijelu biće prikazan dopadljivi početak tiranije, da bi potom u četvrtom dijelu bilo riječi o već sasvim uspostavljenoj tiraniji i onome što prof. dr Irina Deretić naziva „povlačenje logosa ili psihopatologija nepravednog tiranina“. Peti dio će poslužiti kao osvrt na razmišljanje o tome da tiranina možda treba i sažaljevati, kako i sam Sokrat govori, a zatim i razmatranje teze Čincia Aruze (engl. Cinzia Arruzza) da je Platonova kritika tiranije zapravo njegova kritika demokratije. (shrink)

Behavioural flexibility is often treated as the gold standard of evidence for more sophisticated or complex forms of animal cognition, such as planning, metacognition and mindreading. However, the evidential link between behavioural flexibility and complex cognition has not been explicitly or systematically defended. Such a defence is particularly pressing because observed flexible behaviours can frequently be explained by putatively simpler cognitive mechanisms. This leaves complex cognition hypotheses open to ‘deflationary’ challenges that are accorded greater evidential weight precisely because they offer (...) putatively simpler explanations of equal explanatory power. This paper challenges the blanket preference for simpler explanations, and shows that once this preference is dispensed with, and the full spectrum of evidence—including evolutionary, ecological and phylogenetic data—is accorded its proper weight, an argument in support of the prevailing assumption that behavioural flexibility can serve as evidence for complex cognitive mechanisms may begin to take shape. An adaptive model of cognitive-behavioural evolution is proposed, according to which the existence of convergent trait–environment clusters in phylogenetically disparate lineages may serve as evidence for the same trait–environment clusters in other lineages. This, in turn, could permit inferences of cognitive complexity in cases of experimental underdetermination, thereby placing the common view that behavioural flexibility can serve as evidence for complex cognition on firmer grounds. Like Socrates, Aspasia did not leave any writings. We know about her from secondary sources. In this paper, I will show a number of things in the reports of what Aspasia said and did that are philosophically interesting, especially in what they show about dealing with various kinds of crises, from marital to political ones. First, I will argue for the most probable reconstruction of her life. Second, I will elucidate what kind of method Aspasia employed when considering marital issues. (...) Third, I will endeavor to prove that Plato’s representation of Aspasia was not a mockery, as some authors argue. Furthermore, the most significant philosophical points of Aspasia’s Funeral Speech will be highlighted and assessed. Eventually, I will attempt to figure out what Plato’s reasons might have been to ascribe this speech to a woman. (shrink)

Peña-Guzmán (2017) argues that empirical evidence and evolutionary theory compel us to treat the phenomenon of suicide as continuous in the animal kingdom. He defends a “continuist” account in which suicide is a multiply-realizable phenomenon characterized by self-injurious and self-annihilative behaviors. This view is problematic for several reasons. First, it appears to mischaracterize the Darwinian view that mind is continuous in nature. Second, by focusing only on surface-level features of behavior, it groups causally and etiologically disparate phenomena under a single (...) conceptual umbrella, thereby reducing the account’s explanatory power. Third, it obscures existing analyses of suicide in biomedical ethics and animal welfare literatures. A more promising naturalistic approach might seek a theoretical understanding of the social/ecological circumstances that drive humans and perhaps other animals to self-destruction. (shrink)

Тежићу, потом, да покажем оригиналност Аничиног разумевања Платоновог односа филозофије и трагичког песништва. Кључни део овог рада биће посвећен Платоновом „парадоксу“, као и томе како Платон схвата космичку лепоту, и зашто је она лепша од било које људске творевине. Такође ћу преиспитати, следећи промишљања Анице Савић Ребац, како је Платон у дијалогу Гозба успео да изрази суштину (...) сваког, па и уметничког стваралаштва. In this analysis, I will delve into the ethical and philosophical concepts associated with Konstantin Levin, a prominent literary figure in Leo Tolstoy's renowned work,* Anna Karenina*. The examination will entail a comparative study of two distinct forms of intellectuals: Sergej Ivanovich, who is actively engaged in aristocratic spheres, and Levin, who maintains a deliberate distance from such political and public involvement. Levin's pursuits center on a meticulously planned overhaul of his economy, prioritizing the welfare of the peasantry. Ksenija Atanasijevic was not only the first female lecturer at the University of Belgrade but also the first expert in the Ancient Greek Philosophy. In this paper, I will not engage with all of her writings about Ancient Greek thought. Instead, I will place the emphasis on her interpretation of Epicurus, because her best and most profound works are dedicated to his philosophy, including her book on the Epicurus’s atomism written in French under the title L’atomisme d’Épicure. In this paper the author attempts to elucidate comparison with the illustrated book in the Philebus (38e12) in a more detailed manner in order to find out what cognitive dispositions underlie our experiencing a variety of pleasures, particularly the pleasures of anticipation. In doing so, she shall argue against the commentators of the Philebus, who claim that only perception and memory are responsible for forming perceptual judgments concerning pleasures, supporting the interpretation, according to which our capacity to think (dianoia) is (...) also involved in that process. The word excellence is derived from the Latin word excellentia, and it means the quality of being extremely good. Human excellences could be defined as those human qualities that make a person outstanding, exceptional, superior, or, in one word, the best of one's kind in any field of human activities. Frequently, it is synonymously used with the word virtue, narrowly meaning moral excellence.

Browne 1 (this issue ) argues that what may appear to be a benevolent practice-disclosing the sex of a fetus to expecting parents who wish to know-is in fact an epistemically problematic and, as a result, ethically questionable medical practice. Browne worries that not only will the disclosure of fetal sex encourage sex-selective abortions (an issue we will not take up here), but also that it will convey a misleading and pernicious message about the relationship between sex and gender. More (...) specifically, she contends that the practice of disclosure is problematic because (1) it purports to establish the gender of the developing baby based on information about the baby's sex, whereas this is not a warranted inference because while sex is determined by biological factors, gender is determined by social factors and (2) it conflates (biological) sex with (social) gender or encourages such conflation or reduction and thereby promotes 'essentialistic' thinking about gender that is closely linked to sexism and social injustice. If (1) is true, then disclosing fetal sex amounts to misinforming or misleading prospective parents-and since misinforming patients is wrong, the act of disclosing is also wrong. However, beyond the wrongs of misinforming patients, the practice also perpetuates the harms associated with a rigidly gendered society through endorsing the message in (2), thus lending the authority of the medical profession to the gender-essentialist ideas that have underpinned, and continue to drive, sexism and social injustice. This analysis leads Browne to recommend that clinicians be prohibited from informing parents about the sex of their developing fetus. -/- We agree with Browne that gender essentialism-the notion that 'femaleness' and 'maleness' carve out distinct natural classes with innate, immutable properties-is not only a false metaphysical thesis, but also a pernicious idea insofar as the sexist attitudes it fosters motivate policies that systematically violate the human rights of women, as well as those of the LGBTQ community. However, we do not think that the disclosure of fetal sex misinforms prospective parents about the gender of their baby, nor do we believe that such disclosure presupposes or promotes gender essentialism properly understood. Plato was the first philosopher who gave an account for the highly controversial claim that both genders are principally equal in respect to their talents and abilities. Consequently, one may advocate the thesis that in Plato’s view, the gender differences are rather the outcomes of social, cultural and political influences, than of natural factors. The aim of this paper is to elucidate the meaning and validity of Plato’s arguments for the gender equality in the Republic, which will be supplemented with (...) some important remarks on this same subject-matter from the Laws, in order to find out what social and political implications they have. In doing this, I will argue against some interpretations of prominent Plato scholars who criticize or reject his account of the social role that women should have in Plato’s ideal city. Additionally, I will discuss the claim, advocated by George Vlastos, that Plato is a feminist in a modern sense of the term. (shrink)

С тех пор как был сформулирован новый способ прочтения Платона, осно- ванный на «неписаном учении», он стал предметом споров. Однако свидетель- ства его существования неоспоримы. Выражение Платона «неписаное учение» было использовано Аристотелем в «Физике», а описание этого учения можно найти как у Аристотеля, так и у других классических мыслителей. Есть три ключевых момента, имеющих решающее значение для «неписаного учения» Платона, т. е. его устных лекций, прочитанных в Академии, — это, во-первых, учение о принципах, т. е. о Едином и неопределенной Двоице, (...) во-вторых, тезис о геометрическом построении мира и, в-третьих, учение об идеальных числах. Эти числа упоминаются как в прямой, так и в косвенной традиции. Полемика по вопросу о «неписаном учении» возникла в немецких академических кругах, где интенсивное изучение Платона имеет давнюю и хорошо развитую тради- цию. В англосаксонском мире эта дискуссия, по-видимому, не была хорошо принята и иногда даже вызывала отвержение (особенно в кругу Г. Черниса и его последователей). Однако из этого, конечно, нельзя сделать вывод о том, что исследования, опирающиеся на «неписаное учение» Платона, не появи- лись в англоязычном мире, в котором также искали новые пути понимания смысла его философии. Сначала мы оценим различные прочтения, а также их аргументы относительно важности «неписаного учения» для реконструкции философии Платона, а затем аргументируем свою позицию в этих дискуссиях. This paper discusses two approaches of the relationship between subjectivity and intersubjectivity. The Husserlian one, a transcendental phenomenological investigation of the possibility of subjectivity and intersubjectivity, and the Waldenfelsian one, an ethical phenomenological investigation of day to day intersubjective interactions. Both authors pretend to give account of the conditions of possibility of intersubjective interaction. However, Husserl starts with the investigation of the transcendental structure of subjectivity, that is, the fundamental conditions required for the appearance of consciousness. By contrast, Waldenfels looks (...) first at practical interaction and draws conclusions on the deeper structure of subjectivity based on the traces he discovers to be characteristic for this interaction. Our interest lies in determining which of the two approaches should be given priority for the investigation of the constitution of intersubjectivity. (shrink)

Три су битне претпоставке за разумевање еротологије Анице Савић Ребац, а то су: 1. однос филозофије и књижевности; 2. специфичност њене методе; 3. мистичка духовна историја. У овом раду ће се настојати да се покаже како Аница Савић Ребац има кохерентно схватање двострукости и јединства Ероса у грчкој филозофији и књижевности, које је у извесним сегментима и оригинално. Ући ће се у продуктиван, критички дијалог са кључним рефлексијама о Еросу Анице Савић Ребац како би се одредили домети и границе њене (...) „мистичке” еротологије, која је превасходно платонистичке провенијенције. У том контексту ће се показати да је њено полазно становиште у испитивању Ероса филозофско, као и то да у њеном тексту доминира филозофско промишљање. (shrink)

Srpska recepcija grčke filozofije od Velikog rata do sredine XX veka (Anica Savić Rebac, Ksenija Atanasijević, Miloš N. Đurić).

The article describes a comparative analysis of research on the approaches and peculiarities of the implementation of supervision and intervision in the professional activity of teachers abroad and in Ukraine. The concept of supervision and intervision in the work of teachers in the secondary school is revealed. The use of supervision and interference in the professional activity of teachers makes it possible to effectively prevent their emotional and professional burnout. It is noted that in Ukraine, for the first time, a (...) program of psychosocial support, which includes regular supervision for teachers and school psychologists, was developed and implemented by specialists of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy with the support of UNICEF in the eastern regions of the country where the military conflict has been taking place. However, among the teachers around the country, this practice is not used because there is no system for the preparation of supervisors; most teachers are not familiar with this concept at all. Intervision in schools abroad is quite developed, it is carried out systematically, it is aimed at creating a special and safe space for professional support, exchange of experience, and information, and it prevents emotional and professional degradation. In Ukrainian schools, the intervision between colleagues is partial. Therefore, this form of work needs support and development from the school administration. Examples of the plan of work during intervision among the teachers on the basis of foreign experience are given and recommendations on conducting intervision in pedagogical collectives are offered. The study aims to develop a technology for designing educational materials in English for agrarian universities based on pedagogical design. The paper identifies the main problems of the existing textbooks in a foreign language for students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree at agrarian universities, formulates methodological principles for designing modern educational materials, develops the stages of the technology. The scientific novelty of the study lies in elaborating and providing a scientific substantiation for the content of the analytical, design-related, content and activity (...) related, evaluation-effective stages of the technology of designing educational materials in a foreign language for students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree at agrarian universities. As a result, the problem of designing modern educational materials in a foreign language for students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree at agrarian universities that would possess communicative significance, competence orientation and implement the full range of didactic functions was solved. This paper presents data on the representation of women at 98 philosophy departments in the United States, which were ranked by the Philosophical Gourmet Report (PGR) in 2015 as well as all of those schools on which data from 2004 exist. The paper makes four points in providing an overview of the state of the field. First, all programs reveal a statistically significant increase in the percentage of women tenured/tenure-track faculty, since 2004. Second, out of the 98 US philosophy departments (...) selected for evaluation by Julie Van Camp in 2004, none in 2015 has 50% women philosophy faculty overall, while one has 50% women who are tenured/tenure track. Third, as of 2015, there is a clear pyramidal shape to the discipline: Women are better represented as Assistant than Associate and as Associate than Full professors. Fourth, women philosophy faculty, especially those who are tenured/tenure track, are better represented at Non-PGR ranked programs than at PGR ranked and PGR Top-20 programs in 2015. (shrink)

Declaring a cosmopolitan right to scientific progress risks perpetuating many of the inequities it aims to overcome. This calls for a re-imagination of science that directly responds to science’s links to violent nationalist projects and the harms of capitalism.

To hold an environmental ethic is to hold that non-human beings and states of affairs in the natural world have intrinsic value. This seemingly straightforward claim has been the focus of much recent philosophical discussion of environmental issues. Its clarity is, however, illusory. The term ‘intrinsic value’ has a variety of senses and many arguments on environmental ethics suffer from a conflation of these different senses: specimen hunters for the fallacy of equivocation will find rich pickings in the area. This (...) paper is largely the work of the underlabourer. I distinguish different senses of the concept of intrinsic value, and, relatedly, of the claim that non-human beings in the natural world have intrinsic value; I exhibit the logical relations between these claims and examine the distinct motivations for holding them. The paper is not however merely an exercise in conceptual underlabouring. It also defends one substantive thesis: that while it is the case that natural entities have intrinsic value in the strongest sense of the term, i.e., in the sense of value that exists independently of human valuations, such value does not as such entail any obligations on the part of human beings. The defender of nature’s intrinsic value still needs to show that such value contributes to the well-being of human agents. (shrink)

A minimal truthmaker for a given proposition is the smallest portion of reality which makes this proposition true. Minimal truthmakers are frequently mentioned in the literature, but there has been no systematic account of what they are or of their importance. In this article we shall clarify the notion of a minimal truthmaker and argue that there is reason to think that at least some propositions have minimal truthmakers. Is the societal-level of analysis sufficient today to understand the values of those in the global workforce? Or are individual-level analyses more appropriate for assessing the influence of values on ethical behaviors across country workforces? Using multi-level analyses for a 48-society sample, we test the utility of both the societal-level and individual-level dimensions of collectivism and individualism values for predicting ethical behaviors of business professionals. Our values-based behavioral analysis indicates that values at the individual-level make a more significant contribution to (...) explaining variance in ethical behaviors than do values at the societal-level. Implicitly, our findings question the soundness of using societal-level values measures. Implications for international business research are discussed. (shrink)

The article considers the question of the role of psychosocial intervention in forming the professional Ethics of PR-specialists. -/- There are three ethical areas (social, corporate, personal) of professional Ethics of PR-activities. The first area of professional Ethics of PR-activities is social. It consists of responsibility of PR-specialist before society. The second area of professional Ethics of PR-activities is corporate. It consists of the responsibility of PRspecialists before the PR profession in general, a PR agency, increasing the reputation of the (...) profession of PR. The third area of professional Ethics of PR-activities is personal. This area is the basis of the Ethics of PR-activities. This area is the foundation for the development of corporate and social professional Ethics of PR-activities. -/- The authors formulate three levels of psychosocial intervention according to the three ethical areas of professional Ethics of PR-activities. They are social, corporate, and personal. The aim of psychosocial intervention on the first level (social) is to deepen knowledge, transform the attitude towards social phenomena and society in general. The aim of psychosocial intervention on the second level (corporate) is to deepen the knowledge (professional development), actualize professional subjectivity, relevant professional activity at this level. The aim of psychosocial intervention on the third level (personal) is to deepen the subjection of PR-experts. The authors define professional competencies of the PR-specialists, which they have to get on the three levels. (shrink)

Observers inspected normal, high quality color displays of everyday visual scenes while their eye movements were recorded. A large display change occurred each time an eye blink occurred. Display changes could either involve "Central Interest" or "Marginal Interest" locations, as determined from descriptions obtained from independent judges in a prior pilot experiment. Visual salience, as determined by luminance, color, and position of the Central and Marginal interest changes were equalized. -/- The results obtained were very similar to those obtained in (...) prior experiments showing failure to detect changes occurring simultaneously with saccades, flicker, or “mudsplashes” in the visual scene: Many changes were very hard to detect, and Marginal Interest changes were harder to detect than Central Interest changes. -/- Analysis of eye movements showed, as expected, that the probability of detecting a change depended on the eye’s distance from the change location. However a surprising finding was that both for Central and Marginal Interest changes, evenwhen observers were directly fixating the change locations (within 1 degree),more than 40% of the time they still failed to see the changes. It seems that looking at something does not guarantee you “ see” it. (shrink)

This paper canvasses the various dimensions along which theories of truth may disagree about the extent to which truth is minimal.

Nghiên cứu xem xét mối quan hệ giữa các thành phần trong mô hình lý thuyết TPB (gồm: Chuẩn chủ quan, Nhận thức kiểm soát hành vi, Thái độ với việc lựa chọn) và Ý định lựa chọn sản phẩm du lịch xanh. Khảo sát trực tuyến được thực hiện với mẫu 185 bạn trẻ sinh sống tại TP. Hồ Chí Minh. Kết quả cho thấy, các thành phần Chuẩn chủ quan, Nhận thức kiểm soát hành vi, Thái độ với (...) việc lựa chọn đều có ảnh hưởng tích cực đến Ý định lựa chọn sản phẩm du lịch xanh. Hơn nữa, kết quả cũng chỉ ra được mối quan hệ trung gian một phần của Thái độ với việc lựa chọn. Từ kết quả nghiên cứu, một số hàm ý quản trị được đề xuất. (shrink)

Socialist republicans advocate public ownership and control of the means of production in order to achieve the republican goal of a society without endemic domination. While civic republicanism is often attacked for its conservatism, the relatively neglected radical history of the tradition shows how a republican form of socialism provides powerful conceptual resources to critique capitalism for leaving workers and citizens dominated. This analysis supports a programme of public ownership and economic democracy intended to reduce domination in the workplace and (...) wider society. I defend this socialist republicanism from both the Marxist objection that it overlooks the impersonal nature of domination under capitalism and the left-liberal objections that property-owning democracy or worker codetermination are sufficient to suppress dominating relationships. The resulting position identifies the need for more ambitious institutional grounds for republican liberty than is often supposed, while offering us a distinctive emancipatory justification for socialism. Biomedical diagnostic science is a great deal less successful than we've been willing to acknowledge in bioethics, and this fact has far-reaching ethical implications. In this article I consider the surprising prevalence of medically unexplained symptoms, and the term's ambiguous meaning. Then I frame central questions that remain answered in this context with respect to informed consent, autonomy, and truth-telling. Finally, I show that while considerable attention in this area is given to making sure not to provide biological care to (...) patients without a need, comparatively little is given to the competing, ethically central task of making sure never to obstruct access to biological care for those with diagnostically confusing biological conditions. I suggest this problem arises from confusion about the philosophical value of vagueness when it comes to the line between biological and psychosocial needs. (shrink)

The central concern of this paper is to explore the efforts of Schiller's post-Kantian idealism and Marcuse's critical theory to develop a new conception of free human experience. That conception is built on the notion of play. Play is said to combine the human capacities for physical pleasure and reason, capacities which the modern world has dualized. Analysis of their respective accounts of play reveals its ambivalent form in the work of both philosophers. Play supports the ideal of ‘freedom from (...) necessity’, understood as a release from all external constraint. But it also appears to serve as a model for ‘freedom as a higher necessity’. In the case of Schiller, the ambivalence encompasses idle play and an obligation to make ourselves worthy of freedom. For Marcuse, play represents a kind of libidinal idleness while also underpinning a non-alienated conception of labour. (shrink)

Pessimists hold that human life is fundamentally a condition of suffering which cannot attain transcendent meaning. According to pessimistic nihilism, life’s lack of transcendent meaning gives us reason to regret our existence. Life-affirming nihilism insists that we can and should affirm life in the absence of transcendent meaning. Yet both of these strains struggle to articulate what practical reasons might compel us to regret or affirm our inability to transcend the immanent conditions of the human predicament in the first place. I suggest that we catch sight of these practical reasons when we shift our attention from the value of transcendent meaning to the desire for temporal transcendence expressed by strong attachments such aslove and devotion. In short, we want the things we love to last forever, and they can’t. This makes human life tragic, but it does not settle the question of what sort of meaning it might have or lack. (shrink)

The Cyrenaics assert that (1) particular pleasure is the highest good, and happiness is valued not for its own sake, but only for the sake of the particular pleasures that compose it; (2) we should not forego present pleasures for the sake of obtaining greater pleasure in the future. Their anti-eudaimonism and lack of future-concern do not follow from their hedonism. So why do they assert (1) and (2)? After reviewing and criticizing the proposals put forward by Annas, Irwin and (...) Tsouna, I offer two possible reconstructions. In the first reconstruction, I explain claim (1) as follows: happiness has no value above and beyond the value of the particular pleasures that compose it. Also, there is no "structure" to happiness. The Cyrenaics are targeting the thesis that happiness involves having the activities of one's life forming an organized whole, the value of which cannot be reduced to the value of the experiences within that life. I explain claim (2) as follows: a maximally pleasant life is valuable, but the best way to achieve it is to concentrate heedlessly on the present. In the second reconstruction, the good is radically relativized to one's present preferences. The Cyrenaics assert that we desire some particular pleasure, e.g., the pleasure that results from having this drink now. Thus, our telos -- which is based upon our desires -- is this particular pleasure, not (generic) 'pleasure' or the maximization of pleasure over our lifetime. As our desires change, so does our telos. I conclude that the scanty texts we have do not allow us to decide conclusively between these reconstructions, but I give some reasons to support the second over the first. (shrink)

This article argues that political injustices can arise from the distribution and character of our sexual desires and that we can be held responsible for correcting these injustices. It draws on a conception of structural injustice to diagnose unjust patterns of sexual attraction, which are taken to arise when socio-structural processes shaping the formation of sexual desire compound systemic domination and capacity-deprivation for the occupants of a social position. Individualistic and structural solutions to the problem of unjust patterns of sexual (...) attraction are assessed in the context of racialised sexual aversion, racial fetishism, and the desexualisation of people with disabilities. While both forms of intervention can help in principle, some of the advantages of structural approaches are laid out. A schema for assigning political responsibilities for addressing this injustice is proposed, with some limits identified to the kinds of state and social responses that are justified. Finally, the status of the merely aesthetically unappealing is considered, with a relational egalitarian approach concluding that they are subject to structurally unjust patterns of sexual desire only when exposed to oppression or second-class citizenship as a result. This qualitative study presents 27 students’ insights about four teachers’ implementation of an immersive Native American history curricular unit designed to equip students with digital skills to critically navigate complex, polarizing social issues. The Digital Civic Learning (DCL) curriculum used Google Suite and Google Classroom or Schoology to provide collaborative slides supporting immersive 2D-graphics, children’s books/resources, immersive activities/artefact-creation, and multimodal tools (e.g., discussion posts, Flipgrid video-essays). Teachers regulated student thinking/behavior towards cohesive outcomes, and encouraged open-ended exploration, operationalizing the design framework (...) as a zone of proximal development (ZPD). The history unit incorporates four cybernetic design features (DF) that enable teachers to steer student-centered collaboration within the curricular unit. The teacher serves four diverse roles (guide, facilitator, modeler, participant observer) mapping onto the DF. Results of focus group interviews with students, which were analyzed based on a theory-informed coding scheme and narrative inquiry, suggest ways for social studies teachers to operationalize the DCL immersive history unit as a cybernetic ZPD by adapting its basic structure to technologies accessible in their schools by adapting its basic structure to technologies accessible in their schools.
